What's New
There have been a lot of exciting changes at Subtronics Assembly Corporation in the last few months!
One of our big projects at the end of 2010 was to install a mezzanine level on the shop floor to move all of our inventory upstairs. We were projecting growth with our two largest customers and wanted to create additional floor space for new equipment needs as the increased business was realized. We then completely reorganized our shop, streamlined our flow throughout our entire production process and gained about 40% additional space on our shop floor. We also created cells for our different box build assembly areas. Then, in late summer 2011, we added a brand new state-of-the-art SMT line.
Our new SMT line includes a board feeder, screen printer, pick and place machine and reflow oven. We also added conveyors throughout the entire line to minimize board handling through production. With the addition of the new SMT line, we also added an experienced SMT operator.
In October 2011, we were very fortunate to hire our new Production Manager Mike Schuck, with 28 years experience in the electronics industry. He is an extraordinary resource and has implemented wonderful new processes within our organization that have increased our efficiency and ensure that we continue to deliver a high quality product to our customers.
With the addition of Mike, we restructured the departments on our shop floor. We have implemented two separate team leads -- one to oversee the SMT area and one to oversee the through-hole assembly and 2nd parts operations. We have also gained the expertise of an electrical engineer who is optimizing our testing capabilities and working with our customers to create new test fixtures and procedures in-house. We added a separate quality department and have been fortunate enough to find meticulous quality staff to ensure quality products are created and processes are followed correctly.
We just had our ISO registrar back to do our reassessment audit in mid-December and passed with flying colors -- we are happy to report that the registrar found no nonconformances and no observations!
The improvements will be continuing in 2012 as we implement internal process audits and greatly expand our quality database and tracking methods for each assembly that we produce.
